It is 7:15 on a Sunday morning and since I've been blogging in my head, in my bed for three hours already, what the heck here I am . . . this is Christmas Morning Blog Style and under the tree is My Voice To The World. This went up yesterday with the help of Chris from GoDaddy (LuvU Chris!) and my Bloggette Mistress Aubrey (LuvU2!) . . . and as I tap tap tap this morning I think of all the millions of other bloggers out there - all of us talking to ourselves and you-whoever-you-are while we stand on the global street corner of the world and give it a Shout Out!
The idea for Babyboomerette came to me about month ago as I was taking Beatty-The-Wonder-Dog (AKA The Zen Master of Love) for a walk out on top of the mesa where I live, outside Moab (Mountain Biking Capitol of the World) Utah . . . I thought how 60, which I will be in exactly six months TODAY) is NOT like 60 used to be - you could call it "The New 40" or you could just call it nothing - and know the freedom of non labeling. BabyboomerETTE was my next logical thought . . . So what - you might ask, IS a BabyBoomerette? Why, thank you for asking!
What is a BabyBoomerette? Later there'll be a permanent post/definition on the side bar of this site - which is still being built around me as I write (rather like singing in a saloon, empty of customers inside a building that's not quite finished) but for now . .. Boomerette is Knowing you're in your Prime, whatever your age . . . Boomerette is staying curious but more - it's Staying Amazed at how cool/wonderful/heartbreaking the world around you can be . . . it's Trying New Things (I currently seek an agent for my first book, like 572,000,000 other people; just worked for a political candidate - OBAMA!!!! - for the first time;am finally learning to cook - which should be a blog in itself.) It's putting on lipstick, mascara and earrings every morning and then not looking in the mirror again that day. It's listening to music - new, the Moldy Peaches - and classic - the Beatles, Beethoven. It's Doing Some Little Kindness in the world whenever you get the chance. It's bothering to Enlarge's One's Life by going to a museum or even work in one - attend an opera or catch the next White Stripes tour. Boomerettes are well read, politically aware (they wouldn't miss the chance to vote for anything and often work for their candidate) and artistically expressive - you may not set up your easel and start painting every morning (tho you might) - you might garden, or write great letters (yes actual letters, like with a pen on paper and then put a thing called a stamp on and mail it) or needlepoint but You Do Something Creative that takes you outside yourself and is a pleasure in the moment. Boomerettes Have Style, Your Own (you may live in blue jeans, but dammit they fit right even if you had to try on 32 pairs to find that fit) without being fashion victims. You Tend To Your Relationships without over-watering them. You like a party - but Love Being Alone. And at that party you may be found in the middle of the room playing charades - or off in the corner listening to the host's ancient aunt, who actually used to bust broncs for a living. A boomerette still does high kicks and has at least one friend under the age of five. Boomettes are Elegant Street Fighters - we learned to wear pearls from our Mamas and to burn our bras to get a point across. A Boomerette hasn't forgetten how to dance - infact some might say you teach it. Oh, and she may in the past - or may still - know how to twirl a mean baton.
Should anyone out there happen to wander past this saloon, and hear me singing, let me know what YOU think a Boomerette is . . . and have a really good day!
