I loved it when I turned on the news Monday morning and two newscasters, a man and a woman, chatting about the Grammys the night before cued a quick shot of Beyonce doing a number with one of my VERY MAIN GIRLS + MAJOR Boomerettes + If-God-Is-A-Black-Woman-Then-It's-Her - Tina Turner!!!!! It was kinda cute when the guy thought Beyonce was Tina and vice versa - confused because BOTH sets of amazing legs and levels of energy looked identical - to a GUY no less.
BTW My Girl has eight Grammys - so far.
Tina is a lesson to us all, a torch bearin' boomerette if there ever was one. . . a fabulous singing, dancing, Proud Mary who Ike helped invent. But after years of violent abuse and total control by him, she walked out, literally, with the shirt on her back. That's when My Girl started doing the inventing on her own - emerging as a more powerful, more beautiful and even more famous woman than Ike had ever dreamed of. She's always acknowledged that a strong spiritual life including daily meditation helped her get out, get up and become I, Tina (great book and inspiring film.) But it was her own big ol' heart, soul and guts that got her there as well.
While as the Founding Babyboomerette I adhere strongly to the belief that it's not the age, but the attitude that makes you a Boomerette . . . I just have to applaud the fact that Tina is now 68!!!!
So . . . 21 NO! 42 NO! 84 lipsticks pop their tops in salute to the Diva of 'Em All, Y'all!
